Notes:
- Rationality is when beliefs align with reality, and acting accordingly.
- Irrationality (misalignment) can be from ignorance of reality or a lack of freedom to act in a rational way.
- Possible reasons for someone apparently acting irrationality:
- They are ignorant of reality;
- They are not ignorant, but pressured, coerced, or want to act in a misaligned way;
- They are acting rationally, but I am judging their actions based on my ignorance of reality;
- They are acting rationally, and I am not ignorant, but pressured, coerced, or want to judge their actions as misaligned;
- A combination of the above.
- Ways that I am willingly irrational:
- Eating to much, remaining overweight;
- Procrastinating on priority work;
- Not seeking truth, remaining ignorant in some aspects.
- Why do I do this?
- Is “ignorance bliss”?
- Is rationality easier?
- Peer pressure vs truth?
- Allowing myself to agree with the opinion of someone I respect instead of questioning it?
- Short-term happiness vs long-term happiness?
